“The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated” – Ghandi
Victoria’s animal welfare shelters need your help to stop the appalling destruction of tens thousands of healthy cats and kittens every year.
Cat overpopulation is a serious problem and we all need to take action to do something about it.
Each year in Victoria, more than 53,000 homeless cats are received by the animal welfare shelters and each year there are simply not enough homes to go around so more than 35,000 cats and kittens have to be put down.
Shelter workers are sick of it. Sick of seeing animals they love treated in this way and sick of being asked to do the community’s dirty work.
The shelters are united in their resolve to have mandatory de-sexing for cats introduced across Victoria as the first step in dealing with cat overpopulation.
Please check our list and if your local council has not introduced mandatory de-sexing for cats you can download a letter to send asking the council to take action urgently.
Your letter could make a difference, it could save lives.
Our Vision
Is to end the indiscriminate breeding of cats and to ensure that all cats in Victoria are responsibly homed, thereby stopping the forced annual destruction of tens of thousands of unwanted cats and kittens by animal welfare organisations.
Our Mission
To ensure that legislation is enacted in Victoria to require that all cats over the age of 12 weeks are de-sexed unless registered to a licenced breeder; and require that all cats and kittens offered for sale, or acquired must be de-sexed.
